I am pleased to report our first year at Ecobuild has been a success. Despite reports of fewer visitors than last year, the GreenSky team was delighted by the positive response to our new SkyPlugs and SkySuperstrates.
Ecobuild has always attracted a diverse range of people from top business leaders to householders searching for inspiration, from politicians and journalists to sustainability professionals from all across the globe. This does not seem to have changed.
My feeling is that with sustainability and environmental technologies, much of the hype that was needed to kick-start these industries at the beginning has waned as they move into the mainstream. I noticed this last year as well in my 2012 Ecobuild blog.
Less and less explanation is needed as people know it all already from the previous years, and many of the big leaps and innovations have happened. People go now just to keep up with the latest developments.
This puts the pressure on companies to keep innovating and moving ahead of their customers’ needs, showing real leadership. It also highlights the need for the exhibition to showcase innovations and trends effectively, and focus on the integration of different technologies. The maintenance of this holistic environmental picture is the challenge for Ecobuild organisers, and I’m confident we’ll still be ahead of the curve come March 2014!
