A herbaceous perennial that grows to 45 cm in height, with thick erect stems bearing shallowly scalloped, broadly elliptic, grey-green leaves and starry pink flowers in flat terminal clusters to 15 cm in late summer. Towards mid-summer flat tightly packed heads of green buds appear just above the foliage. In late summer the buds gradually open to reveal masses of tiny flowers. Prefers to grow in full sun, and well drained neutral soil. Attracts wildlife such as moths and butterflies.
